I'm looking at upgrading my video card. I got a couple in mind but not quite sure what the best bet is. they are all NVIDIA gt200 series

My problem is the difference in core/memory speeds and whether to sacrifice memory size for memory type(1g vs 512meg and ddr3 or ddr5)

here are the specs.

gt240
512meg ddr5/550 core, 3400mhz memory

gt220
1g ddr3/550 core,1580 memory

gt250
1g ddr3/550 core, 1800 memory

all within ten dollars or so of each other.

Help plz.

First let's just take that 220 out of the picture.......and I'm assuming you mean the GTS 250?

Overall the GTS 250 is a better card, in almost every aspect over the 240.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=619&card2=606

The difference from DDR3 to DDR5 isn't that much of a deal really, not when everything else is lower comparatively. There's also the option of the 9800GTX+ (Exact card I have) which is pretty much exactly the same as the GTS250 in every aspect. Although slightly larger. Make sure you can fit them in before you order! (Obvious statement is obvious) Both require a minimum of a 450 Watt PSU so make sure you're well above that. <--- important!

Are you set on going with Nvidia or would you consider ATI? The 4850 is pretty much the same card as the GTS 250 but slightly cheaper by about $15. Depends on your budget. Are you maxed out around the $140 range? lemme know what the max you're willing to pay is.

if yur on later and got some questions hit me up on xfire.

P.s. post the links to the cards you're looking at, I just noticed the GT240 might be the OC one...

And yes, I want to stay NVIDIA, ATI does not like my system for some reason, could be the NVIDIA chipset I have

And I am currently running a 750w power supply so i'm good there

If you can shell out $5 more I'd go with this BFG one. Faster core clock and BFG offers lifetime warranty, not to mention better stuff over MSI most times.

And I emphasize again to check the dimensions to be sure it'll fit in your case.
