|
|
Hi all,
Long time no speak, hope everyone is well.
Nearly finished upgrading the old pc to be able to play the modern games out now. Only problem is I dont know what graphics card to get. Only have 1 agp 8x slot and 4 pci slots. Not good I know but no chance for new mobo yet. Currently it has a nvid gf 6200 512mb which I'm told can play games like CoD5 on low settings. If it can then cool but I still need to get a new card to play games at their best.
Any advice and suggestions needed as I dont know much about graphic cards.
Hopefully joining on the battlefield soon.

I have a geforce 7600 GT 512MB DDR2 (AGP) card and it runs most games pretty decently, then again I havent bought any new games that are extremely stressfull on my card except maybe WaW.
Heres a link to my video card, they also claim it to be overclocked so you might get more performance out of it.

One thing you want to check also is if your bios is allowing your video card to run off its own memory, sometimes it automatically sets itself up to run off your mobo RAM which can drag your pc to the ground. I'm not sure if the drivers for your card corrects that or not. _________________

These are 2 decent cards cuz u only got agp. I had the 7600 till it fried. but had it for 2 yrs and did mw and WaW fine till my crash. Check them out, I don't think NVidia did a 8 series AGP, but it is worth a look. Here is the link, and they are fairly inexpensive and should do the job on low settings.

Personally, the 7600 GS is far better a card. I had both and the GS was a super card. |

Thanks for help guys. Viper good to see ya still around, nice card you have but I cant find one anywhere.
Have been recommended a ATI HD4670 as a good agp card, anyone got one or heard anything about them. Can get one for around £100. |

Never dealt with ATI myself, I know lots of people prefer them over others.
GT 220/240's are usually under $100 these days, better than a 9400/9600 if you can find them.
Do you know what MoBo you have? care to post it? _________________

| he's only got AGP...I don't think 9 series is available for nvidia in AGP anymore. I think the best bet is the 7 series, never partial to ATI, I always had a problem with every ATI card I bought |

Thanks for all the advice guys but due to price and availability of agp cards I have gone for the 4670. From the reviews I've read it's not a bad card and will run BC2. I will be completely rebuilding the comp probably next year anyway so it'll do for now. Should be arriving tomorrow (thursday) so hopefully see you on the waw server tomorrow night. Good to be finally back playing with you guys.
